Celebrating International Migrant Day on December 18th, Italy’s leading platform for migrants Mygrants is launching Fall Forward, an online webinar that celebrates the commitment of young migrant Entrepreneurs who harness the power of new technologies to generate economic and social value for their communities.

MygrantsDays aims to investigate the main challenges faced by young migrant Entrepreneurs before and during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The webinar will be live streamed on Mygrants‘ Facebook page, offering a platform for 4 Entrepreneurs who will have the opportunity to talk about their business, their successes and the challenges they are facing. They will receive feedback and suggestions from high profile advisors and investors to identify new avenues, tools and opportunities to continue to grow, thrive and generate greater economic and social value.

The event is geared towards 4 main goals:

Connecting innovative, migrant-led, socially-oriented enterprises with a network of advisors, investors, research entities, policymakers, incubators, accelerators and changemakers

Understanding what the main challenges that Entrepreneurs were facing before Covid-19 and what the new challenges generated by the pandemic are

Supporting entrepreneurs in identifying new avenues, new tools and new opportunities in order to continue to grow and thrive

Celebrating the ability of migrant Entrepreneurs to turn adversity into opportunity through high social impact and business-oriented entrepreneurship.

Established in 2017,  Mygrants offers the first app based on microlearning specifically developed to provide migrants, through 8,000 thematic quiz modules available in 3 languages, with information, training and support towards specific professional destinations (job placements, entrepreneurship, higher education paths).

Today, the Richmond’s team is made up of 14 people from 8 different countries, and in its first 3 years, has grown exponentially and raised over €1 million in investment from several investors, including 3 Business Angels and 3 Investment Funds.

The company also collaborates with major national and international organizations including TIM, ItaliaCamp, Deloitte, UnipolSai, National Chamber of Italian Fashion, Adecco Foundation, Hogan Lovells, Unicef, GoodWall, Cartedo and Atingi.

A rising trend

According to Mygrants, in Italy, in the first six months of 2020 the number of Entrepreneurs that were born abroad amounted to approximately 730,000, up by 1.8% compared to the same period of the previous year. The proportion of migrants was 9.7% of the total.

If we analyze the last six years, there emerges the difference in numbers between entrepreneurs born in Italy (-2.6%) and Entrepreneurs born abroad (+13%). A trend that is confirmed, albeit to a much lesser extent, in the last year (comparison between the first half of 2019 and 2020); -0.1% Italians, +1.8% foreigners.

In the first half of 2020, the balance between enterprises that started and folded was positive among migrant Entrepreneurs and negative among Italians, but in both cases the pandemic has worsened the situation compared to the same period in 2019 (and even more so compared to the same period in 2015).

The webinar will take place on December 18, 2020 and will start at 16:00. You can watch it live on the Mygrants Facebook page.
