AI-Startup LeftSaver and Tedallal Have Just Championed the Startup Roadshow in Erbil

Erbil-based startups Tedallal and LeftSaver have just won the Startup Roadshow semi-finals in Erbil, held at Re:Coded House on September 19th.

Tedallal is a platform that connects two people in the same neighborhood to pool grocery shopping, tapping into the sharing economy for allow users to save time and reduce expenses. LeftSaver, on the other hand, utilises Artificial Intelligence to reduce waste.

The two startups, led by Syrian entrepreneurs based in Iraq, as now running up to the finals of the Startup Roadshow, the entrepreneurial competition organized by Jusoor and SPARK in partnership with Startups Without Borders. Running its second edition, the Startup Roadshow is the world’s first-ever competition for Syrian entrepreneurs in the Middle East. 

The teams of entrepreneurs are now one step closer to winning up to $15.000 at the finals, to be held in Amman, following 5 Demo Days in the cities of Erbil, Amman, Gaziantep and Istanbul. 

“Leftsaver is a smart recycle bin that helps chefs to capture, track, and manage food waste to reduce food waste and increase their profit. We take great pride in being winners at the Startup Roadshow; we became closer to achieve our goal toward establishing a startup that battles food waste in the hospitality industry,” says Mohammad Al Mdfaa, co-founder of LeftSaver. 

“Participating in the Startup Roadshow competition – meeting a trainer, the mentors and teams was a great experience for us. The competition has been hard, so we felt proud when we were qualified to the final round. We are determined to achieve the goals and the vision for our startup,” says Sana Ramadan, co-founder of Tedallal. 

Ramadan explains the solution they created, which tackles unemployment and simplifies shopping for users. “Many people have problems to get shopping done, while on the other hand many people are still unemployed. Our solution is a platform that connects people who need an item list from a supermarket and another one who can shop and deliver,” he says.

The pitching competition was the conclusion of 5 intensive days of bootcamp held in Re:Coded House, where the entrepreneurs got training in business modelling, customer validation, digital marketing and pitching. 

The roadshow is currently in Gaziantep, where 20 selected startups are working on their business and competing to reach the finals. Next up is Istanbul and Amman, where 40 other startup teams will pitch, competing for the chance to battle it out at the finals in Amman, for cash prizes of $15.000, while the second and third place winners will receive 10.000 and 7.000 respectively. 

At the end of the tour, three winning startups will be crowned, with the chance to get an all-expense paid trip to Amsterdam, to pitch at the SPARK Ignite Conference next November.
