Heart of Amman is Looking for 100 Startups to Revitalize Downtown Amman

Calling Jordanian startups! Up for grabs, there is a share-free investment of $10,000 and $5,000 for the most promising Ammani startups, for a total of $200,000.

UNDP has launched the “Heart of Amman” initiative in partnership with the Government of Japan and Greater Amman Municipality. The initiative is a unique platform that allows everyone to take part in revitalizing the historic and heritage center of downtown Amman, by expanding local economic opportunities while creating a greener, healthier, and more inclusive city for youth, women and children.

Designed to select 100 startups, including all stages, from ideation, pre-seed, to even growth stages, the platform will support those startups through providing business development boot camps, networking events and meetings with stakeholders as well as mentorship sessions and follow up. In addition to share-free investments of $10,000 and $5,000 to be provided for the most promising startups, in a total of $200,000 to stimulate local economic development, and in strong partnership with the private sector.

“The Heart of Amman” initiative will have a social entrepreneurship seeding program aiming to engage private sector investors and grow global impact investment community. It intends to finance inclusive social capital projects targeting vulnerable communities, refugees and migrants. As part of the planned activities, UNDP and GAM will identify 10 community-based interventions which will focus on rehabilitating underutilized neighborhoods and public spaces.

Startups eligible to apply should have Downtown Amman as one of their targeted segments, they should have a clear social impact, and the team should consist of at least 2 members. Besides, at least one of the team members should be Jordanian, and one team member should be able to commit to joining 12-day boot camps.
